Hello all! It's been a bit (3 years!) since I last sent you an email. Since then a lot has happened in the space of 3D rendering (Gaussian Splats! Radiance Fields! Apple Vision Pro!), but my ability to keep up with it all as I was making my own videogame was too much to try and focus on. Beyond that, I found myself more and more drawn to the technical side of game development and started building out custom tools and my own game engine. Through that the process, and with the same critical eye I brought to Rendered, I started to get really interested in the data behind games. Not in terms of analytics or metrics, but in the data that informs the _stuff_ behind a game. For any given game, there's a world of questions - Where do you define how high a jump is? How are weapon stats configure -

Hello everyone!

For the inaugural episode of GAME DATA I’m pleased to have gotten to interview none other than mobile game legend Arnold Rauers.

Arnold’s games label Tinytouchtales has consistently put out some of the most interesting games available on mobile year after year for more than a decade. His commitment to game design, technical expertise, and visual polish has made his games consistently stand out among the crowd. When a new Tinytouchtales game comes out, I play it immediately.

At the time of recording, his card-drafting game GEO GODS had just released on mobile, and with it he posted a really interesting Deep Dive video of his own that I highly recommend checking out (not least because we reference it in the episode!)

Arnold has, since recording the episode, already released another new game onto the app store, the weird western game GUNCHO:

Find Guncho, Geo Gods, (my personal fav) Card Crawl, and all of Tinytouchtales’ other games on both major app stores.

Additionally, Arnold has released some of his games for desktop through Steam:
